About me
Marianne Richter has focused on connecting The Columbus Museum with the communities of the Lower Chattahoochee Valley in Georgia and Alabama since she began her tenure as Director of The Columbus Museum in 2015. The extensive collections of American art and regional history and significant educational programs make The Columbus Museum a cultural hub. Since 2019, Richter has led the museum through the planning, fundraising, and implementation processes for the first renovation since 1989, with the goal of engaging more effectively with visitors. Previously, Richter was Executive Director of the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana, and her experience in museums and collections also includes Operations Manager and Curator, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, San Antonio; Curator, the Union League Club of Chicago; Curator of American Art, the Dayton Art Institute; and Supervisor of Education, the Brandywine River Museum, Chadds Ford. Richter graduated from Oberlin College with a B.A. in art history. She has a master’s degree in art history from the University of Delaware and advanced to candidacy in the doctoral program in art history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
